After some complications due to schedule change in Doha we arrived finally 10 hours later than planned in Jo'burg. We were met and briefed by the guy from Southern Eagle he explained the changes made due to our delay. We picked up a VW Touran, installed the "TomTom" with the latest South African maps and reached at around 20:30 Dullstroom. The next day we arrived at Letaba Rest camp (Krueger) in time for an evening guided safari. Unfortunately, on the way through the Panorama Route, we had to sacrifice some of the very beautiful sights. Nevertheless we got to see all "Big 5" and some smaller ones too.
N'Kaya Lodge (Thornybush Private Reservation) was really a highlight. Nancy was horrified by the lions playing next to the open Safari Landrover and Oliver was almost pushed from his high back seat by a curious elephant. Nancy in Panic, wanted to jump from the vehicle! She skipped the early morning tour. Sorry!
The flight to Livingstone in Zambia was on time and we enjoyed the Victoria Falls. We had a bit stress because the immigration guy only accepted US$ for the Zambia visas. The Zambezi Sun Hotel was very nice and within walking distance to the Falls (10 min.)There was no major incidence and it got actually a bit bored, so after 2 days I was glad to move on. We flew back to Jo'burg and after a very chilly night at the Airport en Route (B&B but sorry no breakfast!), to Cape Town. We rented a Toyota Yaris and drove to our Guest House. "Villa Belladonna" turned out to be a very convenient residence and our hosts, Pnina & Eliav, where very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was an experience in its own! We climbed the Table Mountain by the Swiss made cable way, than down to Cape Point and whale watching at Hermanus in Walker Bay. On the way we visited the Penguin Colony in The Boulders. We met the giant, fat sea lion at the Hout Bay. The compulsory shopping day at the Canal Walk, a huge Shopping Centre, tested my patience and nerves, but of course, Nancy liked it! In the evening we always went to The Waterfront Here you will find a lot of shops and restaurants. Our favorite (shame on me!) was the Paulaner Bräuhaus, where you got a great beer, "Pork Nuckles", Thüringer Sausages and Sauerbraten.
All was a perfect and the weather was just fine. On the way back there was yet another big confusion due to the schedule change by Qatar Airline. We waited ten hours at the airport, had no forward booking from Qatar but finally we made it back to Zürich. What an exciting holiday!
