On an impulse, I decided to take a holiday. This, because a trip to India did not materialize and the next one was after Ramadan. Oliver was already in London to see his friend and could unfortunately not join. Crete came to my mind and off we went. I booked the Hotel Galaxy Villas in Koulouloufari above Hersonisou and near Heraklion. It was OK for the price. The weather too hot and humid. That meant, out in the morning, travel to an interesting and nice spot, settle down in a nice place and have a couple of cold draft beers. Than a lunch around 15:00 with cold Retsina! On this pattern we visited Elouda, Sitia, Knossos, Malala & Rethimnon.
Over the weekend we went with the ferry to Athens (8 hrs) and stayed at the Hotel Kimnon in the Plaka, Athens. Saturday was Shopping Day, for me the horror!

A short ferry trip to Athens
On Sunday, early morning, we started to claim to the Acropolis on an easy way, starting near our hotel. Unfortunately on the way we encountered a barking dog and my wife stalled. She forced me to go all the way back, down again, the long way around to the museum and than a long hot climb to the top! We finally made it, looked at the ruins, made pictures and looked out for a cold beer. Not such luck! Down the hot and crowded hill and into a cool Tavern in the Plaka. The world was OK again! The night cruise back to Crete and a shopping trip to Heraklion went smooth, we got a big cabin and had a good sleep (at least me!).

The next days, we were busy visiting the remaining sights and cities: Such as Chania (very nice), Agios Nikolaos, Ierapetra and a shopping trip to Heraklion, where I volunteered to wait in a small Cafe until Nancy was finished with her shopping. Big mistake! After 6 - 8 big beers (pints) and 3 hours later she showed up again! How she managed to survive the deadly heat (40°C)and the stress of shopping was beyond my comprehension! I also started to worry about my future, since she was carrying, with her all, the money, cards, car key and passports! All in all a very nice and relaxing holiday, should do it more often!
